Japanese Tea House
From a disused space overlooking a beautiful lake, I was asked to fill it with a Japanese styled Tea House. I had one simplified picture to go from for the structure and needed to fill a space which had no ease of access.
After playing with a few of the proportions and looking into the roof structures of Japanese Tea Houses, I set out to build this stilted structure from Red Cedar and used iron nails in the flooring for authenticity as they would have traditionally. Any screws and brackets have been hidden in the design to keep the high finished to the design. The Tea House was made in two parts – the roof and the flooring.
This freestanding structure makes the perfect place for a quiet morning’s coffee to a small social gathering for drinks. The Tea House draws the comfort from the heat of the day whilst giving an open view to most of the lake and garden.
